Nine Vietnamese Nationals Arrested for Illegal Overstay at Osaka's '68k-club,' After May Drug Overdose Death Prompted Investigation

Osaka Prefectural Police announced on August 30, 2026 that it had arrested nine Vietnamese nationals, men and women aged 20 to 33, on suspicion of violating the Immigration Control Act (illegal overstay). According to a Sankei Shimbun report, police searched the "68k-club" nightclub in Nishi-Shinsaibashi, Chuo Ward, Osaka City, in the early hours of that day and seized powder suspected of being an illegal drug. All nine arrested were patrons of the club and are suspected of having overstayed without renewing their residency status.
The investigation was prompted by an incident on the morning of May 4 that year, in which a Vietnamese man who had collapsed in front of the club was found to have died of a drug overdose. Police are believed to have continued investigating the surrounding area following that incident.
