Yamagata Prefectural Police announced in August 2026 that it had re-arrested a 23-year-old Vietnamese technical intern trainee, identified as Nguyen Minh Hieu, living in Tendo's Honmachi 2-chome, on suspicion of breaking and entering and attempted theft. According to a report by Terebi-U Yamagata, he is accused of breaking into a different vacant house in Tendo between January 23 and February 7 and searching for valuables, but failed to find what he was looking for.
The same man had already been arrested the previous month over the alleged theft of two rings, valued at approximately 40,000 yen, from another vacant house in Tendo. Police have not disclosed whether he admits to the allegations, citing investigative concerns, and are looking into the motive, possible accomplices, and how he entered the property.
