Aichi Prefectural Police announced on July 28, 2026 that it had arrested Engin Can Gunal, 28, a Turkish national who owns a demolition company in Aisai City, and an employee, Nerzat Kiskin, 69, also a Turkish national, on suspicion of violating the Immigration Control Act (facilitating illegal employment). According to reports by Chukyo TV News and other outlets, they are accused of employing three Vietnamese nationals as workers at demolition sites within the prefecture between February and July of that year, while knowing they had overstayed their period of authorized stay and were residing illegally.
Under questioning, the two have reportedly offered an explanation to the effect that they "thought they had visas."
Current status: The Nagoya District Public Prosecutors Office decided, effective August 14, 2026, not to indict the employee, Nerzat Kiskin, 69. Prosecutors said only that the decision was "based on the evidence," without disclosing further reasons.
