Tokushima Prefectural Police's Investigation Division 2 and Naruto Police Station announced on August 4, 2026 that they had re-arrested a Malaysian national self-described as a chef, 31, on suspicion of fraud. According to a report by the Tokushima Shimbun, he is accused of conspiring with unidentified individuals to defraud a victim of 1.8 million yen around June 2 of that year by impersonating a police officer.
The same man had been arrested on the spot on July 8 on suspicion of attempted fraud after allegedly posing as a police officer in an attempt to defraud a woman of 2.5 million yen. Police are investigating the cases as part of a series of frauds carried out by the same group.
