This article organizes publicly available information into a single account. Where it describes an arrest or an ongoing investigation, that reflects only one stage of criminal procedure and does not mean guilt has been established (the presumption of innocence applies). We will update this article as new information becomes available, including the outcome of prosecution, non-prosecution, or trial. This article is not intended to unfairly disparage any individual, group, nationality, ethnicity, or belief, and aims to provide objective, fact-based information.

The Dutch Public Prosecution Service (OM) announced on August 4, 2026 that it had arrested a fourth suspect on suspicion of preparing a terrorist attack. The suspect, an 18-year-old man living in Kesteren, was taken into custody by the Special Interventions Service (DSI) on the night of July 31, based on information provided by the General Intelligence and Security Service (AIVD). In the same investigation, three other suspects had already been arrested overnight between July 28 and 29 in the cities of Rotterdam, Eindhoven, and Alkmaar on similar suspicion.

According to the OM's statement, "at this point in the investigation, no specific target or timing for an attack has come into view." Data storage devices were seized from the 18-year-old suspect's home, but no firearms were found. A Rotterdam investigating judge ordered his pre-trial detention extended by a further 14 days, and he is barred from contact with anyone other than his lawyer.

Current status: As of this writing, official statements from Dutch authorities contain no information at all on the nationality, motive, or ideological background of the four suspects, including whether Islamist extremism is involved; this has not been disclosed. Dutch public authorities tend not to disclose such personal attributes during the investigative stage, and this article will be updated once more definitive information becomes available.

This site's policy is to state a suspect's nationality only when it has been officially confirmed; for this case, no such information is currently available, and that absence is noted here explicitly. This article will be updated as further details emerge.
