The "Pakistan Japan Friendship Festival 2026" is being held from August 6 to 9, 2026 at the fountain plaza in Tokyo's Ueno Onshi Park. The event is organized by the general incorporated association PJF and the PJFF executive committee, with support from Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Embassy of Pakistan in Tokyo, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, and Taito Ward. It runs each day from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The venue features Pakistani food stalls, a program introducing wedding ceremonies on weekend evenings, two daily qawwali (a form of Sufi devotional music) performances, and performances on traditional instruments such as the rabab and tabla. Current status: Some social media posts have criticized the festival's official backers by linking the event to a dispute over an allegedly illegally constructed mosque in Kawagoe, Saitama Prefecture. However, this site has not been able to independently verify that Kawagoe mosque dispute through primary sources and has not published an article on it, and no official connection between the festival's operation and the mosque dispute has been confirmed.
