The Metropolitan Police Department's Public Security Bureau announced on April 29, 2026 that it had arrested Yoshitada Okiyama (65, transliteration), an activist with the radical leftist group Chukaku-ha, on the spot on suspicion of obstructing the execution of official duties. He is accused of striking with his right hand the helmet of a riot police officer on security duty near a children's park in Kudankita, Chiyoda Ward, while taking part in a Chukaku-ha demonstration against the government-hosted "Showa 100th Anniversary Ceremony" held around the Nippon Budokan. The suspect is reportedly remaining silent under questioning. The riot officer was not injured.
